Mapped Out Presents... Boy Jumps Ship

Boy Jumps Ship formed in 2010 and hail from the North East of England, playing anthemic guitar led alt rock, laden with an honesty and integrity of a bygone time.

In early 2011 Boy Jumps Ship released their exuberant “Engines” EP that received critical acclaim from esteemed press such as Kerrang! and Rock Sound. This was followed up with the Peter Miles (Futures, We Are The Ocean, Canterbury) produced “Be Good. Be Gracious” EP that gained excellent support from Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Daniel P Carter, along with strong support from XFM and Kerrang!.

A UK tour followed allowing the band to hone their electrifying live show which has seen the band support We Are The OceanThe XcertsFrancesqaFutureheads and Maximo Park to name but a few.

2013 saw Kerrang! highlight the band in the best emerging bands around the regions alongside Mallory Knox,Marmozets and Blitz Kids. Further touring followed including a main stage slot at Evolution Festival.

The band recently entered the studio again with Pete Miles to record their new EP, set to be released in early 2014, a year that will see Boy Jumps Ship emerge as a key band in the hearts of many.

‘…maturity beyond their years, enigmatic sound-bites nestled between soaring refrains that wouldn’t disgrace Biffy Clyro.’ –Kerrang! Magazine.

‘Gang Vocals, poptastic hooks and catchy choruses …don’t be surprised when these dudes have you singing along with them this summer’ – Rock Sound

‘Choruses so large you might have to get an extension built onto your house in order to accommodate them.’ – Front Magazine

In response to Arts Council England’s desire to support the development of artistic talent for the UK music industry, leading Music Development Agency, Generator, have established a national contemporary music touring network, Mapped Out that will link high quality, industry ready emerging talent to promoters.

In partnership with Liverpool Sound CityHigher RhythmMusic South WestCommunity Music East and Clare Edwards (West Midlands), Generator will work with a pool of national live music agents and link emerging talent to an established and developing promoter in each region represented.

Following a scoping exercise by Arts Council who were looking at how they could help develop talent for the UK music industry it was realised that a lack of sustainable promoters throughout the regions of England presented a clear barrier for strong emerging talent to set out on a first tour. Agents from the leading UK live music agencies expressed that this was a clear problem.

In response to this Generator formulated the Mapped Out Programme to ensure the professional development of Live Music promoters in areas where little or no activity of this nature happened. Drawing on the agencies experiences, networks and contacts Generator have assembled a strong team containing all elements needed to tackle the issue and ensure there is continued growth of this sector.

Developing promoters will also benefit from building strong links with national live agents, job shadows with established promoters, networking meetings and promoter master-classes that will cover digital marketing, principles of design and brand building.

The six developing promoters were selected based on commitment, drive and passion in towns where there is insubstantial provision for emerging music. Audience development is an important part of Mapped Out and the information gathered by promoters as the project develops will inform its progress.

Headline artists will benefit from a robust national touring network but there are also talent pathways for emerging artists at a regional level, support acts get the opportunity to play to new audiences as well as be part of the dialogue between national promoters and agents.

There will be a total 12 tours over the three years of the programme with regional and local support expertly selected by regional partners and promoters.
